Vehicle Rental Terms & Conditions

ID Requirements

  Cars, Vans and Minibuses
Age 25 - 70 years of age
Deposit £250 made by driver on their own credit/debit card
Proof of Address Any utility bill/bank statement dated within the previous 2 months of the hire date from the drivers home address. Must be shown on collection of the vehicle.
License Must have held a full license for at least 2 years. license must be clean or have no more than 6 points for minor offences (Points guide can be found here). license must be provided when collecting the vehicle, if it is the newer 2 part license then we must see both the photocard and the paper counterpart.

Hire Restrictions

Drivers

The hire can be paid by any person but the driver of the vehicle must be able to provide their own debit/credit card when collecting the vehicle.

Driving Licence

Our insurance allows us to hire to drivers with up to 6 points for speeding and/or minor offences within the past 3 years. For major convictionsit must be at least 5 years from date of conviction. Driving Experience

Drivers must have held a full driving licence for at least 2 years or more. Both the card part of the licence and the counterpart must be present when collecting a vehicle.

Age Restictions

Age restrictions do apply as seen below:

  • Car or Van Hire: Drivers must be between 25 and 70 years of age
  • MPV or Minibus Hire: Drivers must be between 25 and 70 years of age

Occupation

Unfortunately, Due to insurance requirements we are unable to hire to persons in any of the following professions; Professional Entertainers, Professional Sports Persons, Publicans, Night Club Owners, Owners of Gaming Establishments, Members of Foreign Military and Students.

Travel outside of the United Kingdom

All hire prices on our website are based on UK Hire only. All our vehicles can be hired for use outside of the United kingdom but do incur an extra charge due to the need for european insurance cover, european breakdown cover, etc. For a quotation please contact our office on 01914603344.

Delivery and Collection

Metro Vehicle Hire offers deliveries and collections on all hires within the local area and are subject to an additional charge, this charge may vary depending on the duration of the hire and the distance of the delivery. Definition of "The Local Area" is at our discretion. Should you wish to make use of our delivery/collection service then please make our staff aware when booking the vehicle.

Late Returns (without prior arrangement)

Returns up to one hour late will normally be subject to a half days hire charge.Returns over one hour late will be subject to a full days hire charge and possible deposit forfeit. Early returns are not subject to any refund or credit. A vehicle returning late; causing the loss of the next hire will be subject to a full charge of that lost hire.

Making a Purchase

Making a purchase could not be easier. Just choose your hire dates and your vehicle and click on Hire Now!. Electron and American Express cards are not accepted. You will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order. You will need to supply a recent utility bill or bank statement when collecting your vehicle and a deposit of £250 is required for cars and vans and must be made on a credit/debit card. Where a car is hired the driver must own and supply a valid credit or debit card upon collection in order to make a £250 deposit even if this was not the payment card when the booking was placed with us. Collision damage waiver is available on all hires of a 2 day duration and over, Metro Vehicle Hire reserves the right to refuse the collision damager waiver. Deposits taken on hires may be used to cover loss of hire due to damage or driver's negligence. Upon booking a vehicle with Metro Rental Ltd a binding contract shall not be formed until money has been charged.

Long Term Flexi Hire

All payments for our flexi-hire are based on 28 day hire durations only. Payment must be made as per agreed before taking a vehicle. Flexi hire must be for a minimum of 28 days and every 28 days thereafter.

Special Offers

All special offers are subject to availability. Bookings made before an offer is placed on the site will not be subject to any refund or rebate. Special offers will only be activated when specified on booking forms on-line or when requested during telephone bookings. All other bookings will be made using normal prices.

Vehicle Hires

For the rental of any of our vehicles; the main driver must have their own credit or debit card to be used for the £250 deposit.

Excess and Waivers

Damage Waivers can only be taken with hires of 2 days or more and may only be taken before collection of the vehicle, Damage Waivers may not be added once the vehicle is out on hire. excess and damage waivers are vehicle specific and can be found below:

  • Cars have a £600 excess - waiver is £11 per day and will reduce the excess to £150.
  • Vans, MPV's and Minibuses have a £1000 excess - waiver is £15 per day and will reduce the excess to £250.

Cancellation Details

Cancellations over 14 days will be subject to a refund less an administration charge of £35. Cancellations of 14 days or less will not be subject to any refund or credit. 28 Days notice must be given for the cancellation of foreign hires and already booked continental insurance is not refundable. Any deposits paid to hold vehicles is non refundable on cancellations.

Charges

Any vehicle returning not full with diesel will be subject to a charge of the total amount of diesel plus a £10 admin fee. All speeding and parking fines carry a £20 admin charge.

Credit Card Security

All credit card details are taken using a secure server.

Privacy Policy

The Hirer and Driver of a vehicle supplied by Metro Rental Ltd agree that all information submitted; true or false, may be shared with third parties in the event of the lessor suffering unrecoverable loss or fraud.

Terms and Conditions

1. In the agreement the following terms shall have the meanings hereby respectively assigned them.

Hirer: The person named as such overleaf.

Lessor: Metro Rental Ltd or Metro Vehicle Hire.

Driver: The hirer and/or other person named as such overleaf or any other person specifically approved by the Lessor to drive the vehicle during the duration of the agreement.

Vehicle: The original vehicle described overleaf or any other replacement vehicle.

Accessories: The spare wheel, tools and other items with which the vehicle is supplied and any replacements thereof.

Rental Period: The period from the date and time out stated overleaf until the re-delivery of the vehicle into the physical custody of the lessor.

Rental Charges: The hire charges for the rental period calculated in accordance wth the Lessors current tariff.

Refuelling Charges: A surcharge which is added to the cost of the amount of 'Top-Up' fuel needed when the vehicle is returned to the lessor. Calculated in accordance with the Lessors current tarriff.

Excess Amount: The sum specified overleaf as the excess amount.

Excess Waiver Fee: A fee calculated in accordance with the Lessors current tariff which limits the Hirer's liability to pay the excess amount to the amount of the non-waivable excess.

Non Waivable Excess: The Hirer's liability will be limited to the amount of the non-waivable excess if the excess waiver is purchased in accordance with the Lessor's current tariff or is part of an inclusive tariff rate offered by the Lessor.

Personal Accident, Personal Effects & Goods in Transit Insurance Fees: Feels which entitle the Hirer to the benefits of the cover set out in the master policies issued to the Lessor.

Current Tariff: The Lessor's tariff at the commencement of hire.

The Insurance Policy: The Lessor's policy of insurance on the vehicle, a copy of which is available at the rental location.

2. The hirer acknowledges that:
(a) the vehicle is fit for their purpose and undertakes to return it and its accessories to the place and on the date due back specified overleaf.
(b) they have received the vehicle free from apparant defects or damage (except as indicated)
(c) the Lessor has no liability in respect of any injury, loss or damage arising from the use of the vehicle, nor shall the Lessor be liable for any indirect loss or damage, or, in the case of consumers, damage which was not foreseeable by both parties.
(d) the Lessor shall not be liable for damages arising from defects or mechanical failures which are not attrbituable to any breach of the manufacturers warranty implied by law to take reasonable care or exercise reasonable skill.
(e) their deposit will be taken along with the excess in the event of vehicle damage during the rental period.

3. During the rental period the Hirer shall keep the vehicle and its accessories in their or any approved driver's possession and shall not allow a third party to take possession of the vehicle or its accessories and when not in use the hirer shall keep the vehicle and its accessories adequately protected and secured.

4. The Hirer and any driver shall ensure that the vehicle will not be used:
(a) for hire or reward.
(b) for racing, pace-making, rallying, speed testing, driving tuition or similar purposes or for propelling or towing any vehicle, trailer or other object.
(c) in any manner which might render void the insurance policy, or other contract of insurance.
(d) for any illegal purpose or in contravention of any legislation affecting the vehicle, its use or construction.
(e) by any person who:
(i)is not licensed to drive the vehicle.
(ii)is under 25 years of age or over 70 years of age.
(iii)is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
(iv)has given a fictitious name, or address.
(v)has not be approved by the Lessor as a driver.
(vi)has been convicted of a motoring offence, the details of which have not been disclosed in writing to the Lessor at the commencement of the hire.
(f) outside England, Scotland or Wales without prior written consent of the Lessor.

5.The Hirer agrees to pay on demand:
(a) Rental Charges.
(b) any appropriate excess waiver or personal accident, personal effects or goods in transit insurance fees, and any refuelling and miscellaneous charges.
(c) the excess amount in respect of each individual item of damage or loss to the Lessors vehicle or third party vehicles.
(d) all fines, charges, penalties, costs and expenses (including all charges and penalty charges incurred under a charging scheme) incurred in relation to the vehicle by the Hirer or Lessor from the commencement of the rental until the vehicle is returned to the Lessor, except where caused through the fault of the Lessor.
(e) an admin fee of £20 for any present or future traffic notices, I.E. Speeding/Parking.

6. The Hirer shall compensate the Lessor in full on demand for any loss it suffers as a result of any damage, fire or theft to or of the vehicle including loss of revenue to the lessor for the period during which the vehicle shall remain unavailable for rental by reason of such matters and any claims made by any persons in respect of the vehicle whilst it is in the hirers custody. This clause applies whether you have insurance or not. This clause shall not apply to any loss caused by the responsibility of the Lessor.

7. The Hirer and any driver shall:
(a) ensure compliance with the terms, conditions and limitations of the insurance policy, which shall be deemed to be included in this agreement as if the same were fully set out herein.
(b) inform the Lessor of any loss or of damage to or fault developing in the vehicle as soon as the Hirer or driver becomes aware of the loss, damage or fault.
(c) at the request and cost of the Lessor permit to be done in their own name all acts and things as may be reasonably required by the Lessor for the purposes of repairing the vehicle or enforcing any rights or remedies or of obtaining relief from other parties in respect of any loss or damage to or in connection with the vehicle or its accessories.
(d) indemnify the Lessor against such loss as is recoverable at law where that loss is incurred by reason of a breach of this agreement by the hirer or any driver.
(e) ensure that maximum payload and individual axle plated weights are not exceeded.
(f) be responsible for the loading and unloading of the vehicle.
(g) obtain or maintain any necessary operators license.

8. The Hirer and any driver shall not:
(a) be the agent or servant of the Lessor for any purpose.
(b) make any claim for loss of or damage to any property left stored or transported in or upon the vehicle unless due to our negligence.

9. Even if an excess waiver fee is paid, the Hirer shall be responsible for payment of any excess amount where the loss of or damage to the vehicle or its accessories arises from the negligent or wilful action of the Hirer or any driver.

10. The Hirer agrees to indemnify the lessor for any charges arising in respect of any named driver on this agreement without prejudice to the agreed terms and conditions.

11. The period of hire as specified overleaf shall not be extended without the Lessors express authorisation in writing and in any event the period of this shall not exceed 84 days.

12. If the Hirer does not comply with any of the material conditions of this agreement he shall return the vehicle to the Lessor immediately and pay to the Lessor on demand such loss as is recoverable at law where that loss is caused by the Hirer's non-compliance. Where the Hirer fails to reutrn the vehicle, the Lessor shall be at liberty to retake possession of the vehicle and all reasonable costs and expenses incidental to recovery of the vehicle shall be paid by the Hirer to the Lessor on demand.

13. Any addition to or alteration of the terms and conditions of this agreement should be agreed in writing by the parties.

14. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall be deemed to exclude or restrict the Lessor's liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or any other liability of the Lessor which cannot be excluded as a matter of law.

15. The hirer and driver agree that all information submitted, true or false, may be shared with third parties in the event of the Lessor suffering unrecoverable loss or fraud.

16. The hirer and driver agree that all insurance cover is void in the event of payment or payments being outstanding or in arrears at the time of any accident, claim or any unauthorised person driving or having custody of a vehicle at the time of any accident or claim.

17. In the event of an unauthorised person having been found to be driving the vehicle stated on this agreement, the deposit card holder agrees t forfeit the full deposit as signed overleaf.
